Biodynamic wines from Cosimo Maria Massini in San Miniato

It was the perfect spring day for a visit to the property of Cosimo Maria Masini in San Miniato for a wine tasting in collaboration with Italiamo and a lovely group of fellow bloggers and Instagrammers. Before discovering their biodynamic cultivated wines we took a tour of the estate with gorgeous views over the Tuscan countryside and irises in full bloom. The Villa La Selva forms the core of the estate and once belonged to the illustrious Buonaparte family.

The Massini family purchased the estate in 2000 and cultivates biodynamic wine and olive oil on the 40 hectares large hill. Harmony with nature is one of the essentials of biodynamic cultivation and you can feel your stress levels go down in the beautiful garden. The vineyards are cultivated according the biodynamic philosophy of Rudolf Steiner. Biodynamic takes organic to the next level by regenerating soil and plants with great passion and full respect for nature.

The wines of Cosimo Maria Masini are all named after members of the family. We tasted a lovely red Chianti, the white Annick, rosato Matilde, white Daphné, San Forte rosso Toscano and Vin Santo to with cantucci to conclude the afternoon. All served by our gracious host Signoria Maria.
The estate can be visited with a reservation for a tour of the cellars, wine tastings, lunch, cooking and sommelier courses.

“Wine is the most beautiful gift of the gods.”
